A sentinel is sent to watch or guard a person, place or thing from surprise, giving notice when something endangers it. Standing tall and strong at the south entrance of Zion National Park, the Watchman dominates, overlooking the park as a solemn and silent sentinel. This lone peak sticks up into the sky, almost like a soldier at attention. The piece itself features a chorale-like feeling to convey the solemnity and quiet of its guarding, while the march that follows signifies its everlasting duty.

Zion National Park lies within the junction of the Mojave Dessert, the Colorado Plateau, and the Great Basin. This “convergence” including the path of the Virgin River creates a beautiful and unique “desert oasis”. Like a bowl, the canyon itself is full of lush vegetation, a multitude of animals, and gorgeous red rocks. 'The Convergence' encapsulates the feeling of floating through the dunes and red rock deserts of Southern Utah, Arizona and Nevada, before being lifted up to the highest peaks in the canyon to overlook the majesty of its existence.
